Climate Champions Prizes & Judging

The panel of judges will come from the world of art, science, entertainment and education, and will include young students. All judgements are final. The committee will judge based on the following criteria:

  • Interpretation of theme
  • Creativity
  • Composition and technical skill
  • Originality

Finalists/Winner Selection and Notification

Winners from the three grade divisions will be notified by email and will also be announced on the Climate Champions page of on December 20, 2019. Artwork of the winners and select finalists will be displayed on the Home Energy Club Facebook page.

Grade Divisions:

Lower Grades
Middle Grades
Upper Grades

30 Finalists will be selected – top ten from each grade division
9 Winners will be selected – 1st, 2nd and 3rd place from each grade division

Grade range per division is subject to change per state.


  • 30 Finalists – top ten students from each grade division will receive a Climate Champions T-shirt

  • 9 Winners – 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners from each grade division will receive a Visa Gift Card for cash prizes:

    1st Place – $100
    2nd Place – $50
    3rd Place – $25
    First place winners will also receive an autographed book from a public figure to be announced.

  • ALL participants will receive a Climate Champion: Be A Hero certificate (printable from a digital file).

The prizes are not paid for by the state library or any government entity. The prizes are paid for by electricity rate comparison websites featuring electric companies that offer “green” renewable energy plans in de-regulated energy states to combat climate change, including Reliant Energy, Gexa Energy and TriEagle Energy. Eakin Films & Publishing will make all artwork entries accessible to news organizations; however, there are no guarantees that artwork will be published in print or digitally by news organizations.
