The recent launch of Reliant Energy Beat the Heat Centers is a major step towards energy conservation in Texas. Low-income and elderly customers of Reliant Energy will be able to take shelter from the scorching summer heat in 16 cooling centers in cities across Texas. These centers will not only help in the conservation of energy but also help city dwellers to reduce their domestic electricity bills.
The Beat the Heat Program for the City of Houston was officially launched by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner on May 30th, 2019 for the consecutive 14th year. Beat the Heat Centers have also been opened for customers in Dallas and Corpus Christi to provide relief from high temperatures.
According to Elizabeth Killinger, president of Reliant Energy, “Electricity demand is expected to be at an all-time high this summer and Beat the Heat centers provide seniors and low-income customers with a cool, comfortable place where they can conserve energy in the hottest months of the year. Reliant is very proud for its continuous participation in such community service program that serves the needs of our most vulnerable citizens.”
16 Cooling Pads to Beat the Heat
The Reliant Beat the Heat Centers, equipped with air-conditioned comfortable spaces, water and entertainment, are open to the entire community. The key objective of this innovative program is to provide a safe place for the residents to stay cool and reduce home electricity bills during the summer season.
A total of 16 Beat the Heat Centers, which will serve the populace til September, have been strategically located throughout Texas with 11 of them in Houston, 3 in Corpus Christi and 2 in Dallas.
