True Power is relatively new to the Texas deregulated energy market and offers fixed-rate and green electricity plans. It operates in major utility areas like Oncor and CenterPoint, which cover cities such as Houston, Dallas and Fort Worth.

True Power earned a 4.1 out of 5 stars in our review. We based our review on responses from our February 2025 survey of 1,600 Texans living in deregulated areas of the Lone Star State.

The company emphasizes its focus on sustainability and customer care. It offers simple plans that help protect you from seasonal price spikes, plus a customer portal that makes it easy to manage your account. While True Power is still building its reputation, it may be a solid option for Texans who want straightforward service and a provider that values green living.

  • Fixed-rate plans: These plans lock in your electricity rate for the full contract to protect you from seasonal price spikes. You can choose from three, 12, 18, 24 and 36-month terms.
  • Green energy plans: True Power offers eco-friendly plans offsetting your usage with 100% renewable energy while offering a steady fixed rate for 3, 12, 18, 24 or 36 months.

Our Take on True Power

True Power scored a 4.1 out of 5 overall provider rating based on our February 2025 customer survey and review methodology. While it scored well for customer service, it earned below-average scores for customer satisfaction, user experience and retention.

That said, True Power may be a good fit for those who want simple pricing and affordable green energy plans. These plan types can keep bills steady and support a more eco-friendly lifestyle. Plus, you have several contract length options to fit your living situation or energy needs.

True Power electricity rates are generally fair for these plan types. However, customers said they couldn’t afford a $50 increase. While True Power is still building its reputation, it is worth considering for simple and predictable energy bills.

True Power Reviews and Ratings

True Power has a 3.4 out of 5 rating on Google reviews from over 270 customers. On the Better Business Bureau (BBB) website, it’s not accredited and has a 1 out of 5 rating based on six reviews. Here’s an idea of the customer experience with True Power:

What Customers Like

“This morning I had the pleasure of speaking with a customer support representative, Nancy, for setting up the autopay and email notification of the monthly bill. She was perfectly professional, fully supportive, and took care of the account update right away. In my three calls with True Power support over the phone since I signed up for service a month or so ago, all their representatives have been polite, knowledgeable and resolution-oriented,” said Dominic P.

“Miriam at True Power has been an outstanding help! I had quite a confusing case and she got on it immediately and resolved my issue with care and attention. I am so grateful for Customer service representatives such as Miriam,” said Pat S.

“I called today to set up a new service because we are moving. I was lucky and spoke with Wasif. He was very nice and understanding and explained the plan that I was inquiring about to me. I was nervous about completing my enrollment online, so Wasif stayed on and went through it all with me. I hope you’re lucky enough to get Wasif when you call! He did a fantastic job,” said Cindy H.

What Customers Don’t Like

“I typically switch electric companies every few years since there are a lot of options in our area and most companies offer some kind of new customer rate. I saw the bad reviews, but I’ve never had an issue in the past with these small companies, but this time has been horrible. They have so many hidden fees, tried to charge me for a disconnection notice when I was one day late, charge a ‘convenience fee’ to pay online, charge a late fee even when you’re not late, argumentative customer service and to avoid the convenience fee you have to call to setup auto draft as their website doesn’t offer the ability to do this. Avoid this company at all costs,” said Shawn W.

“Do not use this company. They refuse to allow automatic billing. There is no option to set it up on their site like with every other provider. It says to make a support ticket and you enter your credit card info. I have made 6 support tickets so far and they close them without setting up the automatic billing. This company is worthless. They are trying to play a game to charge you late fees because they refuse to set up automatic billing,” said Ryan O.

True Power vs. Other Energy Companies

Based on our rating methodology, True Power falls below top-rated providers like TXU Energy and Gexa Energy. While it offers green energy and price-protected plans, it has fewer plan options and lower customer satisfaction scores.

Who Should Pick True Power?

True Power is a solid pick for Texans who want simple rates and renewable options. It’s especially great for:

New to Texas

True Power offers a smooth setup process with straightforward fixed-rate plans. It’s a great option for getting started without extra fees or complicated terms. Selecting a True Power plan can give you time to understand your usage and the deregulated market without worrying about unpredictable bills.

Short-term Rentals

Renters can benefit from short contract options, such as the 3-month plan if you don’t want a long-term commitment. True Power’s steady rates keep your bills predictable during a shorter stay. However, pay attention to the contract end date when signing up for a short-term plan. If it ends in summer, you may have to re-up when rates historically spike.

Green Energy Supporters

All True Green Fixed plans offset 100% of your usage with renewable power. This helps reduce your carbon footprint while supporting clean electricity generation.

Simple Plan Lovers

True Power plans don’t include bill credits, free nights or other common gimmicks that cheap electricity companies use. It focuses on clear and gimmick-free options that are easy to understand.

How To Get Started with True Power

You can enroll in a True Power plan in just a few minutes. Start by entering your ZIP code on the provider’s website to view and compare available plans. Read the electricity facts label (EFL) to understand the plan details and ensure it fits your needs.

Once you pick a plan, you’ll provide your service address, start date and identification. The provider runs a soft credit check to determine if you owe a deposit, but the check won’t hurt your score.

After confirming your details and finishing enrollment, you’ll have access to a customer portal where you can view bills, track usage and manage your account. If you want to compare plans from multiple top-rated providers, enter your ZIP code on this page.

Contacting True Power

You can contact True Power by phone, online message or through social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, X and LinkedIn.

Contact your local utility directly for power outage reports. It handles power delivery and repairs, not True Power.

Moving or Transferring Service with True Power

You can transfer your current True Power plan to another address by contacting customer service before your move-in date. You’ll provide your new address, preferred start date and any other updated account information.

Service is usually transferred without a delay as long as you’re moving to an area where True Power operates. If you’re moving outside its service area or want a new provider, you can switch energy companies. Be sure to check your current plan for early termination fees (ETFs) first. True Power charges a $300 flat fee if you cancel your plan before it ends, which applies to all of its plans, regardless of contract length.

Is True Power Right For You?

True Power is a solid option for simple fixed-rate and green energy plans. The provider prioritizes steady pricing and customer care, making it easy to understand and manage your account.

That said, True Power charges a very high cancellation charge regardless of which plan type you choose. It also doesn’t offer as many perks or plan types as popular brands such as TXU and Reliant Energy. Instead, it sticks to fixed-rate and green energy plans without confusing prices or hidden fees.

Customer reviews are mixed, but several report good customer service experiences. Before you choose a True Power plan, compare your options to ensure you find the right fit for your energy needs and budget.
