Accent Energy, founded in 2002 and headquartered in Ohio, offers electricity and natural gas plans across several states. The company entered the Texas electricity market in 2005, providing energy plans to both residential and commercial customers. However, Accent Energy was acquired by IGS Energy in 2011. Following its acquisition, the Accent Energy brand was gradually phased out, and its customers were transferred to IGS Energy plans.

In addition to electricity plans, the IGS Energy website offers carbon-neutral natural gas plans, home warranties and solar installations. However, as of March 2025, the company is primarily focused on home insurance for the Texas market. IGS Energy does not currently offer any electricity plans on its website, third-party platforms, such as Home Energy Club, or the Power to Choose website from the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT).

IGS Energy has not provided any information regarding the future availability of its electricity plans in Texas. For this reason, we recommend comparing energy plans from other top-rated electricity providers in the state.

Alternatives To Accent Energy and IGS Energy in Texas

Since Accent Energy was phased out, and its parent company, IGS Energy, doesn’t offer any electricity plans, we suggest exploring other options. At Home Energy Club, we recommend fixed-rate electricity plans for their predictable power bills. To simplify your selection process, we have also developed a ranking methodology for Texas electricity providers. Our scoring system considers non-cost factors, such as customer retention and online experience.

Here are five electricity providers that usually offer affordable fixed rates in Texas. These light companies also earned high scores in our provider review.

These energy providers offer rates from around 14 to 17 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in major cities like Dallas, Fort Worth and Houston. However, keep in mind that power distribution costs vary across Texas, and electricity rates tend to be higher in ZIP codes away from metropolitan areas.

Texas electricity rates also vary depending on the season, driven by supply and demand. Energy prices are typically highest in summer due to the heavy power usage of air conditioners. Electricity rates also tend to increase in winter due to space heating, but less drastically than in summer. On the other hand, energy rates are usually lowest in spring and fall since HVAC power usage drops with milder weather.

Our Take on IGS Energy
