When we researched Now Power plans in April 2025, Now Power only offered a single energy plan: Free Nights, a prepaid, no-deposit energy plan with variable rates and discounts during off-peak hours. Now Power only offers a single plan as of April 2025: a variable-rate, time-of-use energy plan. While you can choose from a wide range of plan types in Texas, we don’t typically recommend plans with these features.

In Houston, Now Power’s single energy plan has a rate above 17 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh). That is a decent amount higher than the statewide average, which is 14.68 cents per kWh, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

Now Power’s rates in Dallas are slightly higher than what the provider charges in Houston, with its “free nights” plan charging of 19.0 cents per kWh for 1,000 kWh of usage.

Our Take on Now Power

Now Power has a small enough customer base that we were unable to source first-hand customer reviews in our survey of more than 1,500 Texans in deregulated areas of Texas. As such, Now Power didn’t earn a rating in our review. 

That said, you can see how its sister company, Acacia Energy, ranks in our review. Acacia earned 4.5 out of 5 stars, scoring well for customer service and customer retention. Its lowest score was for its online experience. This is particularly noteworthy because as its sister company, Now Power may have a similar web experience.

While Now Power may have similar customer service and customer retention qualities, we think  its noteworthy that the company only offers a single plan with many features that we don’t recommend for customers. Additionally, based on Acacia Energy’s customer satisfaction metrics, some customers still have concerns about the overall transparency of fees or the online experience.

Moving or Transferring Service with Now Power

The process is simple if you’re moving to a new address within Texas and want to transfer your service with Now Power. You must contact Now Power’s customer service team to request the transfer. You will need to provide your account number and the new service address. 

It’s important to give enough notice to ensure a seamless service transfer, especially if you want to schedule the connection date to coincide with your move-in day. We recommend letting your provider know your move-in date at least 30 days before your relocation. You must select a different electricity provider if your new address is outside Now Power’s service area.

One key thing to note is that if there are any unpaid balances on your current account, you may need to settle them before transferring your account, otherwise you can be placed under a switchhold.

Is Now Power Right For You?

If you’re looking for flexibility and have less-than-perfect credit, Now Power may suit your needs. However, our research indicates that alternative prepaid light companies, such as Payless Power, may be a better alternative.

Many other light companies with better reputations in the industry, including Reliant Energy and TXU Energy, also offer same-day energy services. Now Power isn’t the only choice for Texans seeking quick power service.
