In our OhmConnect review, the provider earned 4.8 out of 5 stars, making it one of our top-rated light companies in Texas. Its score is well above the 4.5 out of 5 average of the dozens of other providers we reviewed.

One of its most unique offerings is the OhmHours program, where you earn for reducing energy usage during peak times. You can save on your bills and earn additional rewards by participating, making OhmConnect our top pick for smart technology savings.

OhmConnect’s energy rates are competitive with the statewide average of 15.60 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh), according to November 2025 data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). With straightforward rate structures, competitive prices and top-rated customer service, OhmConnect is worth consideration for your Texas electricity needs.

OhmConnect Plans and Rates in Texas

OhmConnect offers seven fixed-rate energy plans in Texas, with a range of term lengths, including 12, 24 or 36-month contracts. Each plan includes access to the provider’s app for energy-saving guidance.

We recommend the TexasConnect 12 energy plan for a more predictable monthly bill. For 12 months, you’ll lock in one of OhmConnect’s lowest rates. The 24 and 36-month TexasConnect options have commensurate rates, but the early termination fee (ETF) is $100 more expensive. However, you’ll only pay this fee if you cancel before the end of your contract. We typically recommend 12-month plans since rates change frequently, and you might secure a lower rate after 12 months.

The PoolConnect, Half-price Nights and EVConnect are time-of-use energy plans in which you pay a specific rate based on the time of day. These plans have on-peak and off-peak hours, with lower rates during off-peak times. We don’t typically suggest time-of-use plans as our top pick, but they can be a good option for savings if you adjust your usage to off-peak times.

OhmConnect’s time-of-use energy plans stand out in the market because the base energy charge is very affordable. In contrast, most similar plans promise “free” energy but charge excessively high rates during high-demand periods.

The GreenConnect 12 plan allows you to offset your energy usage with renewable energy at a slightly higher rate. This plan offsets 100% of your usage compared to TexasConnect, which is only about 28% renewable.

Our Thoughts on OhmConnect

OhmConnect’s low rates and potential savings make it an attractive option. Rates vary by location, but the TexasConnect 12 plan is cheaper than our top pick from TXU Energy and Reliant Energy. However, TXU or Reliant may offer a more reliable customer service experience with 24/7 agent support.

Each OhmConnect energy plan qualifies you for the OhmHours rewards program. The provider sends text messages or e-mail alerts to let you know when to reduce energy usage. You earn electricity discounts of up to 30% based on how much energy you save.

We also like OhmConnect’s Referral Rewards program. You earn cash for each referral who becomes a customer, and they’ll receive a sign-up bonus.

The provider offers fixed-rate plans with traditional postpaid billing structures. If you want a prepaid energy plan, you may want to consider Payless Power.

It also makes it easy to contact customer service, in case you run into any questions.

Customer service is the company’s highest-scoring category, with a 5 out of 5. This rating is backed by its good standing with the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) and its A+ BBB rating.

OhmConnect Customer Reviews

OhmConnect entered the Texas deregulated energy market in 2022, making it a new provider in the area. Since the company also serves California and New York, online customer reviews include experiences from outside Texas. Customers rated the company a 3.7 out of 5 stars on Google Reviews and a 3.6 out of 5 on TrustPilot

Some reviewers appreciate the opportunity for bill savings and lower costs.

“Really excited to experience OhmConnect in Texas, which is referred by my friend. They provide low costs and straightforward prices that will save you $10 or $20 a month compared to other providers,” said Raghu R.

Some negative reviews on TrustPilot express frustration with customer service.

“I’ve inquired several times over the past two weeks about a promotional device, and there has been no follow-up. I have even called and left a message, but there is still radio silence,” said Sara

OhmConnect responded to individual reviews by offering support and next steps. However, it could improve by providing a specific phone number, as it is challenging to locate Texas-specific contact information on its website.

Despite mixed review scores, the Public Utilities Commission of Texas (PUCT) gave OhmConnect a 5 out of 5 on the complaint scorecard. Based on our research, this is a rare accomplishment for newer light companies with fewer customers. Such a good score reflects one of the lowest complaint rates in Texas.

OhmConnect vs. the Competition

OhmConnect score sits between popular providers, such as TXU Energy and Gexa Energy. Although you may have fewer energy plan options overall, you can find better deals with our recommended plans. Compare our Texas energy company reviews and top plans in the following table.

Where Is OhmConnect Available?

OhmConnect serves most major transmission and distribution utility (TDU) service areas, except for Lubbock Power & Light.

OhmConnect’s Electricity Facts Label

The PUCT requires every energy company in Texas to include an EFL with its electricity plans. This document covers everything you need to know about your plan, including your energy charge and additional fees. Here’s an example of the EFL for OhmConnect’s TexasConnect 12 plan and important terms to know.

  • Average price per kWh: This shows the advertised rate at 500, 1,000 and 2,000 kWh. This estimated rate includes the energy charge and fees but is only accurate to the exact kilowatt-hour level. Your actual rate depends on your usage and potential benefits from time-of-use rates or other perks.
  • Base charge: Some Texas energy providers charge a monthly fee for using electricity. You won’t have to pay this fee with OhmConnect.
  • Energy charge: The rate you pay per kilowatt-hour used. Compare this price to the average price per kilowatt-hour. A large difference in the energy charge versus the average rate per kilowatt-hour may indicate the plan has confusing discounts.
  • TDU delivery charges: This fee covers the cost of your TDU’s delivery and grid maintenance services. TDUs typically charge a base fee and charge per kilowatt-hour.
  • Type of product: This section shows whether the plan is fixed or variable rate. All OhmConnect plans are fixed rates.
  • Contract term: This section displays the length of your contract, such as 12, 24 or 36 months.
  • Early termination fee (ETF): This section shows how much you may owe if you cancel a fixed-rate plan before its end date.
  • Renewable content: You’ll find how much of your energy plan is offset by renewable power in this section. OhmConnect offers a few 100% renewable plans, while others are about 28% renewable. The statewide average is 33%.

OhmConnect charges competitive rates and provides helpful transparency in its EFLs. Above, you’ll notice that the average price per kWh section includes the average rate and a breakdown of the different fees that combine to yield that average price. You can use this formula and your home’s energy usage to estimate your actual effective rate based on OhmConnect’s pricing. We captured this EFL on February 10, 2025.

OhmConnect is a retail electricity provider (REP) in Texas that sells plans and bills you for your energy usage. Your utility company, on the other hand, manages the power grid and delivers electricity to your home or business, which includes maintaining power lines and repairing power outages. To report a blackout, contact your utility company directly.

How Do You Move or Transfer Service with OhmConnect Energy?

OhmConnect makes transferring service easy through your online account. In the ‘Utility Account & Event Eligibility’ section, select ‘I Moved’ to disconnect your previous utility. Follow the prompts to update your information. After that, OhmConnect coordinates with your utility to restore your account at your new address. If you’re moving outside of OhmConnect’s service area, you can switch to a new light company without incurring an ETF.

Final Take: OhmConnect Provides Excellent Customer Service and Unique Savings Opportunities

OhmConnect’s competitive rates and unique savings programs make it a good choice in Texas. The provider took a well-earned 4.8 out of 5 stars in our review, scoring well in every category.

We recommend the TexasConnect 12 plan, which offers low rates for a year and the chance to switch if prices drop after 12 months. That said, virtually all of its plans provide competitive rates with predictable energy bills — even its time-of-use plans, which we typically don’t recommend. It also has a green energy plan with competitive rates and predictable bills.

Many customers like the savings from the OhmHours and referral programs, although the provider’s online reviews are mixed. Some mention challenges contacting customer service, as the company has limited hours. If you want more plan variety or ultra-cheap prices, other companies, such as Gexa Energy or Payless Power are worth consideration.

Despite these concerns and its recent entry into Texas, OhmConnect is a strong choice for those seeking low rates, simple pricing and extra savings.

Frequently Asked Questions About OhmConnect

Will OhmConnect charge me a cancellation fee?

OhmConnect charges a $150 or $250 ETF when you cancel a fixed-rate plan before the contract ends. The total amount you owe varies by plan, but you’ll find it listed on your plan’s EFL. Moving outside of the provider’s service area or canceling within 14 days of the contract’s end may waive the cancellation fee.

Do the OhmConnect rates shown include everything?

Advertised rates typically include energy, base and TDU charges. These prices may also assume you qualify for discounts or benefits, like bill credits or time-of-use rates, which might be misleading if you don’t actually meet the specific requirements. Your total bill depends on your energy usage and plan type. OhmConnect offers full rate transparency in its EFLs through the use of formulas that show you how the provider calculates the advertised rate, which includes all fees and or discounts.

Does OhmConnect run a credit check?

OhmConnect checks your credit score, which is standard practice for most energy companies in Texas. It’s a soft credit check, so it won’t hurt your score. However, you might owe an upfront deposit, depending on the results of the credit check.

What is the best OhmConnect electricity plan?

We recommend the TexasConnect 12 for affordable fixed prices for an entire year. Choosing a fixed-rate plan with predictable bills can help you budget and make it easier to track. But the best electricity plan for you depends on your needs. Ohm’s Half-price Nights or EVConnect could be a better fit if you shift your usage to match the discounted periods. When shopping for energy plans in Texas, compare your energy usage to the plan’s EFL to determine if it’s a good fit for your needs.
