About Alice, Texas

Alice is a small town in the southern part of Texas, close to Corpus Christi. It dates back to the year 1888, when it was founded as a railroad depot along the San Antonio and Aransas Pass line. In the past, the town was known for its cattle industry and later for oil. Alice is the latest name for the community, which was originally called Bandana, and later Kleberg, after a Texas War of Independence veteran who lived in the area. The town also has a rich history of Tejano music, and was an important recording hub for artists in that genre.
