About Burleson
In 1880, builders were laying out a new segment of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, from Fort Worth to Alvarado. Grenville M. Dodge, representing the railroad, bought land for a midway depot at the site of what is now called “Old Town” Burleson. The previous owner, Rev. Henry C. Renfro, had named the area after his teacher Rufus Columbus Burleson, the president of Baylor University. Today, Burleson is a suburb of Fort Worth in the Johnson and Tarrant counties, with a population of about 48,225 people.
