About Seguin

Founded in 1838 by Mathew Caldwell’s Gonzales Rangers and officially incorporated in 1853, Seguin, Texas, has a rich history. Originally, it was known as Walnut Springs because of the numerous freshwater sources in the area. Soon after it was founded, the community was renamed in honor of Colonel Juan N. Seguin, who served as a lieutenant under Sam Houston, led a group of Texans of Mexican ancestry, and served as Mayor of San Antonio and as a Republic of Texas senator later in life.
