As a leading electricity provider in renewable electricity, Green Mountain Energy understands that their customers want Texas energy plans that are both green and produce predictable monthly bills, so almost all of their plans have fixed rates that are locked in until the end of the contract term. The contract term lengths of Green Mountain electricity plans usually range from partial year to 12, 24 and 36 months.

Green Mountain Energy may not often be the cheapest electric company or always have the best electricity rates in Texas, but it is a highly trusted brand as part of the NRG family of light companies. Review Green Mountain Energy Houston rates and Green Mountain Energy Dallas rates, and also the rates for over 100 Texas cities you’ll find down the page.

To make quick comparisons of plans and rates from the best electricity providers, check out the Texas electricity rates chart on Home Energy Club in the filter section of the home page (look for the “Compare Plans” button).

Renewable Energy (Green Energy) Plans

In Texas, Green Mountain electricity is available from solar and wind energy sources. By going green with a renewable energy plan, you do not need to install expensive solar panels on your home. Solar panels at utility-scale solar farms absorb sunlight with their photovoltaic cells and use inverter technology to convert this to a usable alternating current, which is delivered to the electric grid and then to homes.

Wind power is generated using wind turbines. Large blades turn a rotor when propelled by the wind; the rotor connects to a main shaft which spins a generator, creating electricity, which is delivered to the Texas electricity grid.

You can help cut carbon emissions by enrolling in a green energy plan, or by using our guide to reduce your home’s energy usage and save money in doing so. You can cut your electricity bill while going green with competitive green energy rates on Home Energy Club.

Tips to Lower Your Green Mountain Energy Bill

If you’re interested in lowering your Texas energy bill, the information on your bill can give you a good place to start. Evaluating your usage, you may realize key areas where you’re overspending. For example, if you notice seasonal spikes, you might consider installing a smart thermostat and a more energy efficient HVAC system so you can heat and cool your home more efficiently. Upgrades, like better insulation and door and window sealing, will reduce your energy usage as well.

Promo codes can cut your energy rate, and thus your electricity bill, with little effort when you enroll in a plan. Take a look at our promo codes page to see if a Green Mountain Energy promo code is available.

If your bills get higher as the seasons change, you may want to reconsider how you’re using your lights. Switch to more efficient LED bulbs.

Connect your bulbs or their associated outlets to smart apps that let you control them remotely, so you can check and make sure all the lights are off even as you lay in bed. Small changes like these can translate to noticeable energy savings.

You should always read a plan’s EFL details to decide if it’s a fit for you, but our system does the tedious math to help you compare estimated costs. Of course, your future bill amounts will depend on your future usage.

You will find a widget on Home Energy Club which fetches your home’s energy usage data from Smart Meter Texas (SMT) and runs calculations of the rate structures of energy plans to help you conveniently estimate the cost of energy plans you are considering, based on your prior 12 months of energy usage as reported by SMT.

In one of the text panels of the widget, you will see an authorization button. By checking the permission box above the fields in which you enter your name and email address, and clicking on the authorization button, you are authorizing Smart Meter Texas to provide us with your location’s energy usage information so that our system can run cost calculations. It’s important to note that errors can occur when developing and running calculations, and the Company does not guarantee that its cost numbers are correct. You should always read the Electricity Facts Label (EFL) for each energy plan you are considering before enrolling, and make an independent decision on whether the plan is an appropriate fit for your home based on your own calculations and all the information disclosed by energy providers in the EFL.
