Summer Energy Plans

Though Summer Energy no longer offers residential electricity plans, the company recommends its sister company, Pronto Power, for customers seeking an electricity plan.

Pronto Power seems to offer only one plan, the Pronto Saver. Here are the features of that plan

  • No credit check or deposit
  • Pay-as-you-go plan
  • No cancellation fee
  • Type of plan: Month-to-month
  • Rate structure: Variable
  • Daily customer fee: $0.39
  • Effective rate: 17¢ per kWh

The rate above is accurate as of February 2025 for Houston zip code 77077.

Summer Energy Programs

As part of its community support efforts, Summer Energy established the “Give Back” Program. Through this initiative, it partners with organizations including charities, schools, churches and youth leagues to help them raise funds.

Through this program, the company previously donated $50 to the respective organization for every residential signup, contributing to the chosen community group while offering discounted electricity rates to new energy customers.

Summer Energy Reviews and Ratings

Due to low numbers of residential customers, our team did not rate Summer Energy. However, Pronto Power, Summer’s sister company, earned 4.2 out of 5 stars in our review.

Summer Energy doesn’t have the best reviews, with less than a 3-star rating on Google from over 140 customers.

Many of the recent customer reviews complain that their electricity plan was sold to another company without adequate notice or that rates dramatically increased without warning. However, the company seems to be diligently responding the customer complaints.

Here are a few customer reviews:

“Would give half a star if I could… Reading some of the reviews, mt 77 yr old mother was one who was never told that her account was sold to Discount Power. Her residential broker did not even know until she called him to make sure it was legitimate.” – Wes O.

“Horrible Customer Service and rates are ridiculous. I experienced the same as so many others. I went off contract 1 month and they charged me 30cents per KW and constant sending disconnection notices when bill is PAID. So disappointing. I will not use them ever AGAIN!!!” – Lauren W.
