About Midlothian
Midlothian, Texas, saw settlement throughout the 1800s, but grew slowly until 1843, when Sam Houston finalized treaties to establish peace between several local Native American tribes and the settlers. Since its founding, Midlothian’s economic growth has depended heavily on its agrarian economy. Historically, the area was a major cotton producer, though many years of working the land led to soil erosion. This reduced the cotton output and shifted the primary production to corn. Now, Midlothian is home to over 18,000 residents and is likely to keep growing.
