Reviews & Ratings

We recommend checking out Constellation reviews from Texans before enrolling in one of their plans. Consider reviews on their pages at Consumer Affairs, Google, and Yelp. While their reviews on Consumer Affairs and Yelp are fairly poor, they’ve improved quite a bit on Google, with a 4-star-plus rating.

At Home Energy Club we gather customer opinions and reviews from independent review sites, the State of Texas Public Utility Commission Complaints Statistics, and other review sources.

We use this information combined with our staff’s expert options to determine a rating score for each company.

HEC Constellation Energy Rating Score: 4.2/5

Customer Ratings

Constellation shows fair scores for most of the reviewed categories, with a 4 or more in four out of five categories.

Customer Reviews

On independent review sites, always scroll past the initial reviews to gain a more unvarnished view of consumer input. Also, note that consumers who post reviews about electric companies tend to have had negative experiences.

Constellation Rates & Plans

Constellation Energy offers Texas electricity with a range of energy rates and contract lengths. Their prices aren’t the cheapest when compared to other fixed-rate plans with bill credits, but they’re affordable.

Popular plans include Green Fixed Rate + Bill Credit, Fixed Rate + Bill Credit + A/C Protect Plus, and Fixed Rate + Bill Credit.

Their Green Fixed Rate plan includes 100% green energy with locked in rates for 12 months.

Their A/C Protect plan includes coverage for A/C and HVAC systems, while the A/C Protect Premier plans also include an annual HVAC tune-up.

Key features all of these plans include:

  • Fair rates per kWh
  • Monthly bill credits
  • Early Termination Fees (ETFs)
  • Base monthly charges
  • Transmission & Distribution (TDU) fees

Note that these plans all feature monthly bill credits. That means they advertise a low rate, but those rates will only apply if your home falls with very set kWh usage ranges. If you fall below or extend above a set range, you may end up paying a much higher rate than advertised.

Be certain to carefully read the Electricity Fact Label (EFL) for such plans.

Tiered Rate Plans

The company also provides tiered rate plans, which means the rate per kWH varies based on the amount of kWhs your home uses. Please note that while this plan type advertises a very low rate, you may end up with a shocking electric bill surprise if you stray outside of your tier’s usage level.

Renewable Energy

As a part of their efforts to decarbonize the energy market and meet sustainability goals, Constellation Energy offers 100% carbon-free energy, using clean energy sources like solar, wind, and hydro.

If you’re looking for affordable renewable energy to reduce your home’s carbon footprint, their Green Fixed Rate plan may be a good fit for you.

If you want the best rates on clean energy, you might consider Gexa. They often have the best rates on green energy, if your home’s usage falls within set levels, found in their Electricity Facts Label (EFL).

Commercial Energy

Constellation also offers commercial energy for businesses. They have robust experience providing affordable business rates, as well as public sector expertise. Many major businesses, including Fortune 100 companies, rely on Constellation for their commercial energy needs.

Transferring Your Electricity Plan

You can conveniently transfer your energy plan when you move to a different address in Texas that benefits from deregulation. Give them a call to discuss your change of address at least a month in advance of your move.

Does Constellation have a cancellation fee?

Yes, Constellation often charges an Early Termination Fee (ETF), typically $150. To cancel your plan, simply call a Constellation operator or cancel via your online account. Be sure to check your plan’s Electricity Facts Label to determine the ETF before canceling your contract.

You can often avoid an ETF when moving outside of Constellation’s service area or if you wait to cancel until the final 14 days of your term.
