Sharyland Power Outages

If your area experiences a power outage, instead of calling Sharyland’s power outage number, you should now call Oncor Electric’s outage number at 888-313-4747.

Call the Transmission & Distribution Utility (TDU) to Report an Outage

When a power outage takes place, you’ll receive a better and more prompt response by contacting the TDU (Oncor) rather than the electricity provider who sells your energy in Texas. It’s helpful to know the distinction between the TDU (also called TDSP) and Retail Electricity Provider (REP) and to have a list of Texas TDU phone numbers you can contact in Texas when an outage occurs in your zip-code. For more profiles on different TDUs, visit our Texas Electric Utilities page.

Use Smart Meter Texas to See How an Outage Affects your Usage

You can assess the effect of an outage on your energy use for a given month by viewing your Smart Meter Texas usage data. Protect Yourself from Energy Bill Rate Spikes due to Demand Surges Caused by Outages

Electricity outages created by high energy demand can result in large electricity rate fluctuations, creating sizable increases in your monthly energy bills if you are not on a fixed-rate plan. Demand increases occur more often during the hot summer months when electricity is needed by everyone to keep cool.

Energy Rates: If you aren’t on a fixed rate energy plan such as an index rate plan, month-to-month plan, or wholesale rate plan that fluctuates with the market, you can protect yourself from unpredictable rate increases with a low-cost fixed-rate plan from some the most trusted Texas electric companies on our home page. Use our helpful Electricity Facts Label Guide to determine whether an electricity plan is a good fit for your home’s usage.

What To Do in The Event of a Power Outage?

  • Electrical surges that occur after power outages can heavily damage your electronic devices, so it’s a good idea to disconnect devices after a power outage.
  • Check with your close neighbors to confirm the outage is not just at your house.
  • Keep your freezer and refrigerator shut at all times.
  • Try to find an electrical source for power-dependent medical devices.
  • Go to another location in case of a dire need for cooling or heating.

The first thing you should do in the case of an electric outage is to disconnect your electronic devices until power is restored. Then, find the phone number to call based on your location to determine when the outage will be over. Or you should check the Oncor Outage Map.

If it’s cold, it’s recommended to never turn on your gas stove for heating due to health and safety risks. You can prepare for power outages by purchasing extra batteries or other power sources. You might also consider having a corded landline phone available. They will work without electricity in case of emergency phone calls. Extra batteries are also important for medical devices requiring electricity.

Print out and keep the phone numbers to call in case of outages in a location you can remember, and save it in your phone’s contacts.

If you use a generator place it outside and keep it away from windows and doors. It is also smart to always have an extra supply of fuel for use in emergencies.
