Customer Reviews
Renewable Energy Plans
Octopus offers only 100% renewable energy plans with price-protected, fixed rates.
They source their green electricity not from a single energy system but from a variety of clean sources, including solar, wind and hydro.
Octo 12 Plans
Their Octo 12 plans feature fixed-rate green energy, allowing you to lock in great rates for 12 months.
Key features of these plans include:
- 12-month, price-protected rates
- 100% clean energy
- Solar buyback
- $10 base charge
- Transmission & Distribution Utility (TDU) fees
To get their best rates, use their Intelligent Octopus tech and enroll in one of their Octo 12 with Connected EV or Octo 12 with Connected Thermostat plans. For drivers of electric vehicles or smart thermostat, these plans give you the same features above with even lower rates.
When compared to other green energy plans with straightforward rates, their prices are competitive. Please note that to access their best rates, you have to enroll in one of their “connected” tech plans.
And if you already have solar panels installed but want 100% clean energy from the grid, you’ll enjoy the fact that all of these plans include solar buyback.
They’ll give you credit for your excess solar energy generated at the market rate for that power. You can sell your solar power back to the grid without having to lift a finger. Plus, there’s no cap on how many solar buyback credits you can earn, and you can roll them over indefinitely.
If you’re a fan of wind energy, you’ll want to join their Fan Club. It’s a time-of-use plan with a twist: you get discounts on your electric rates when wind energy makes up a set percentage of the grid’s energy supply.
Their Fan Club is also a part of their Octopus Energy Generation energy system to drive sustainable energy forward.
OctoPrepay12 Plans
They also offer their OctoPrepay 12 plans. These plans typically feature the same low rates, 100% renewable energy, and ETFs of their postpaid plans. The key difference is that their prepaid plans require that you enroll in autopay.
All of their 12-month plans come with an Early Termination Fee (ETF) of $100.
Starting Service
You can enroll in a plan with Octopus via their website or telephone.
They may need a deposit, but you can often avoid paying it if you have a strong credit score or you qualify for a deposit waiver.
You can get a deposit waiver if you’re medically indigent, are a victim of domestic violence, are aged 65 or older, or you can provide a letter of credit from a previous energy supplier.
Bill Pay
The energy supplier makes it easy to pay your energy bill, with payment options including:
- Pay online at your sign in page.
- Pay automatically via your online account.
- Pay by phone and call 833-628-6888.
- Pay by mail, sending your check or money order to P.O. Box 650823, Dallas, TX 75265.
Switching, Relocating, and Cancellation Fees
Before switching plans, transferring your service, or canceling your Octopus electricity plan, it’s essential to select a new plan that matches your needs.
Begin with the EFL
You can utilize the Texas Electricity Facts Label (EFL) to find the best plan for you because the EFL provides an apples-to-apples comparison of energy rates based on specific kWh usage levels.
You can get your home’s exact historic kWh usage with Smart Meter Texas. For quick tips on smart meters, browse our Smart Meter Guide.
Transferring Electricity Service
You can transfer your electricity to your new address online or over the phone. Inform them 30 days before your move to maintain uninterrupted service.
How do I cancel my energy plan?
You can cancel your plan online or over the phone. Note that they charge an Early Termination Fee (ETF) if you cancel before the end of your term. Their ETFs are typically $100, depending on your contract length.
