TXU Renewable Energy Plans
TXU Energy offers green energy plans associated with renewable energy generation sources such as solar energy, which help to reduce CO2 and combat climate change. You would likely be surprised by the amount of CO2 emitted in association with traditional fossil-based energy plans.
The company provides several electricity plans in Texas connected with solar power. These plans provide consumers access to green energy purchased from the state’s solar farms. You are able to power your home with renewable energy in Texas, while avoiding the expense and complexity of installing your own solar panels.
Renewable energy may also be sourced from wind farms, biofuels, or hydroelectricity. While most energy providers in Texas draw on numerous sources of green energy, TXU is more focused on solar power as its eco-friendly power source. TriEagle Energy’s green plans are associated with multiple green sources, including wind and solar, and TriEagle’s green energy rates are usually quite a bit lower than those of TXU, even though both companies are subsidiaries of Vistra Energy. Check TriEagle rates here on Home Energy Club.

TXU Energy Bill Pay
TXU Energy bill pay is relatively intuitive and easy to understand. Though energy bill payment methods vary depending on the plan you choose, you can access your TXU bill pay information conveniently online through the TXU login page for MyAccount. This section of the site gives you important insights into your energy usage, pricing structure, and service, so you’re not hit with any surprises.
Your TXU Energy MyEnergy dashboard offers a Texas electricity chart with your energy usage, so you can see when your electricity usage peaks. The portal will also provide helpful tips on saving energy to reduce your electricity bill during those peak hours, and you can cut your personal CO2 at the same time.
Tips to Lower your TXU Energy Bill
Changing your power company isn’t the only way you can take control of your energy expenses. You can also reduce your utility bill by taking more mindful actions to control your electricity usage.
Plug major appliances into smart power strips that turn off on their own when there’s no activity. Use timers or smart apps to control your lights so they’re never left on. Simply set them to turn off when your family usually leaves for work and school. Install a smart thermostat (like a Nest Thermostat or Eco Thermostat) that will adjust the temperature automatically to use less heating and cooling energy at night and when the home is empty during the day. These measures will help your home become more efficient with minimal effort.
Switching, Moving and TXU Energy Cancellation Fees
Before you settle on a new energy plan, make sure you compare all your options. Once you’ve evaluated your home’s needs, read the Texas Electricity Facts Label (EFL) for each energy plan you consider. This is a state-mandated summary of what each plan offers. The simplified approach makes it easier to see how one option compares to another. Beware of problems with using the Power to Choose Texas government site for plan comparisons.
Available Now: If you are planning to switch from TXU, see special discounted rates on our home page from TXU’s sister company, TriEagle Energy.
Transferring your TXU Energy Plan
If you’re transferring your TXU service to a new home, you can put in a request online. For a modest fee, you can even schedule the exact date for the transfer. If you’re transferring your existing electric service into a new name or new party, you will need to speak with a TXU customer service representative over the phone to assist with the process.
Report a TXU Energy Power Outage
When you’re reporting a TXU Energy power outage, it’s important to understand the difference between a retail electricity provider (REP) and a transmission and delivery utility company (TDU, or TDSP). A REP purchases power from electricity generation companies and resells it to homeowners. TXU is a REP. TDUs are the entities that transfer that energy to your home.
If you have a TXU power outage, you will need to contact your TDU rather than TXU. These include Oncor Electric Delivery in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, CenterPoint Energy in the Houston area,Texas-New Mexico Power Company, and AEP Texas (two zones). You must reach out directly to these companies to handle outages. Bookmark our Texas Power Outage Guide for phone numbers of each TDU, which include:
- Oncor: 888-313-4747
- AEP: 866-223-8508
- CenterPoint Energy: 800-332-7143
- Texas New Mexico Power (TNMP): 888-866-7456
- Sharyland Utilities: 800-545-4513
About TXU
TXU Energy is a highly trusted electricity company in Texas, tracing its origins back to the Dallas Electric Company, which began providing power to North Texas in 1882. In 1912, The Texas Power & Light Company consolidated 13 electric companies under General Electric’s Electric Bond & Share Company. This would later become Texas Electric Service Company. After several other acquisitions and decades of growth, TXU launched in 1999 as a new brand for what was by then the Texas Utilities Electric Company.
When the competitive electricity market opened in Texas in 2002, TXU Energy offered service as a certified retail electricity provider (also called a retail electric company, light company, energy provider and power company). TXU has become a leader in energy provider technology, offering smart tools and services to help consumers understand and manage their electricity usage.
