Transferring or Cancelling Ambit Energy
You can easily transfer your current electric service to your new address. Submit your request as early as possible. We recommend giving your provider 30 days notice to avoid any lapse in service at your current address or your new residence.
If you already have an Ambit electricity plan, you can easily transfer your current service to your new address by calling (877)- 282-6248.
How to Cancel Ambit Energy
You can cancel your plan at any time online or over the phone.
Please note that if you cancel your plan before your term ends, you’ll likely owe an Early Termination Fee (ETF). This provider’s ETFs are usually $199, but be sure to check your plan’s EFL to determine its exact cancellation fee.
You can avoid an ETF if you cancel your plan in the last 14 days of your contract, or if you’re enrolled in a variable-rate, month-to-month plan.

Ambit Frequently Asked Questions
Is Ambit a good company?
While Ambit Energy operates in Texas, it's a strong provider in the state. However, some residents may be hesitant to choose Ambit due to its multi-level marketing structure.
The company's electricity rates tend to be higher than competitors, and its plan structures can be complex. Many plans feature tiered rates, time-of-use pricing, and Ultimate Perks Rewards programs. Some plans only offer optimal rates when customers participate in referral programs.
For Texas residents seeking straightforward electricity service with predictable billing, other providers may be more suitable. We recommend exploring plans with simpler structures and more transparent pricing models.
Who bought Ambit Energy?
Ambit Energy was bought by a Texas-based electric company named Vistra Energy, which also owns other light companies, including TXU Energy, TriEagle Energy and 4Change Energy.
Do you save money with Ambit Energy?
While some customers might save money with Ambit Energy, its multi-level marketing (MLM) business model creates additional operational costs that traditional energy providers don't have.
Ambit's base electricity rates are not among the most competitive in Texas. To access its lowest rates, customers must participate in the referral program, earning monthly credits that apply toward their bills.
Given these factors, there's no guarantee of cost savings when choosing Ambit as your electricity provider.
How does Ambit Energy work?
Ambit Energy operates as a multi-level marketing (MLM) electricity provider that sells power through its network of independent consultants. These consultants market energy plans to friends, family, and other residential and business customers.
By referring new customers, consultants can earn electricity credits to reduce their home energy costs. However, customers who don't participate in the referral program or qualify for the tiered rate structure may face significantly higher electricity bills.
What is Ambit Lone Star Core plan?
Ambit Energy includes renewable energy in its Lone Star plans. The company offers two main plan structures:
- Fixed-rate electricity plans with 12 to 24-month terms
- Month-to-month variable-rate electricity plans
The variable-rate plans operate without contracts and don't include cancellation fees.
