Stream Energy Texas Plans, Rates & Reviews

Written by Frank Eakin | Last Updated 02/19/2025

Stream Energy is a national energy provider offering electricity rates and plans in Texas. While it doesn’t have the cheapest rates, its prices are affordable when compared to other fixed-rate plans with fairly straightforward prices.

While it was a multi-level marketing company, it’s now owned and operated by NRG. That means it has the backing of one of the biggest names in Texas electricity.

Stream Energy Electricity Plans

Stream Energy’s Texas plans include a number of one-year and multi-year fixed-rate terms, as well as variable-rate plans that can change monthly.

Here are some sample Stream Energy rates, collected in February 2025 for a home in Houston, TX.

While it doesn’t have the best rates, it’s straightforward prices don’t include gimmicks that cause billing surprises. It’s one of the more stable light companies in Texas.

Popular Stream Energy plans include:

  • Simple & Secure plans
  • Conserve & Save plans
  • Secure Choice plans
  • Green & Clean plans

All of these plans have fixed, affordable rates. That said, to get it’s best rates, you’ll have to enroll in a longer-term contract. The term lengths typically range from 12 to 36 months.

Other key features of these plans include:

  • Fixed rates
  • Transmission & Distribution Utility (TDU) fees
  • Early Termination Fees (ETFs)

Stream also offer a month-to-month, variable rate plan, called the Flex Choice Intro. We don’t often recommend these plans because their prices vary based on demand, which can result in shocking bill surprises later on.

If you’re looking for free electricity usage plans or energy plans with no deposit and no credit check, Stream doesn’t typically offer these types of plans.

Stream’s Green Energy Plans

Stream offers 100% green energy through their Stream Green program.

It includes any electricity plan that is sourced from renewable energy. The Green Certification of a plan is a confirmation that the company purchased Renewable Energy Credits (RECs).

That means that clean energy was added to the Texas electric grid on behalf of customers who purchased their “eco+” add-on or enrolled in a green energy plan.

Your actual future bill amounts will depend on your future energy usage, which cannot be precisely determined, so the accuracy of plan cost data cannot be guaranteed. You should always read the details of an energy plan’s Electricity Facts Label (EFL) to decide if it’s a fit for your home.
