Due to the volatile prices of natural gas and the high demand caused by the extreme weather we have, Texas energy rates change often.
Stream Energy Electricity Plans
Stream Energy’s Texas plans include a number of one-year and multi-year fixed Texas electricity rates, as well as variable rates that can change monthly.
While Stream doesn’t have the best electricity rates, its rates are easy to understand and don’t include the types of gimmicks that cause billing surprises. It’s one of the more stable light companies in Texas. Call Stream Energy at 888-685-7693.
Stream’s energy rates are competitive with the big brand expensive light companies in Texas, but not with the low rate energy companies such as Gexa Energy, TriEagle Energy, Pulse Power, Cirro Energy, and others.
You can review Stream Energy Houston rates and Stream Energy Dallas rates on their website. To quickly compare Stream Energy plans with plans from the cheapest electric companies in Texas, use our handy Texas electricity rates chart on our home page in the filter section—just click on the “Compare Plans” button.
Prepaid plans and no-deposit electricity
Are you looking for a no-deposit plan with no cancellation fees?
While Stream doesn’t have these types of plans, its sister company, Reliant Energy, has “pay as you go” prepaid electricity plans, which include no deposit electricity, no credit check and instant approval.
Call Reliant at 866-735-1218 to ask about their no deposit plans and also their month-to-month variable rate plans with no cancellation fees. If you have been searching for no credit check apartments in Texas, you may wish to consider a no deposit energy plan.
Free electricity
If you’re looking for free electricity usage plans, Stream is not one of the electricity companies in Texas offering these plans, but Reliant Energy has a “Truly Free Nights & Truly Free Weekends” plan you may wish to review.
Always review the Electricity Fact Label for each plan to confirm that the average rate you’ll pay for “free” electricity plans is a competitive rate.

At Home Energy Club we compile unbiased customer reviews and satisfaction data from independent review sites, the State of Texas Public Utility Commission Complaints site, and other sources.

About Stream Energy
Stream Energy is a Texas electric company servicing more than 700,000 residential customer equivalents, and offers fixed energy rates and variable rate plans, as well as green energy plans.
Since its founding in 2005, the company has expanded into other services, including wireless and home services. They provide energy plans in Georgia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Washington D.C., Illinois, Delaware, Texas, and Ohio.
The company has grown through a combination of multi-level marketing (MLM) and traditional marketing. In 2019, NRG acquired a portion of the company that was not MLM. NRG is the parent company of Reliant Energy, Cirro Energy and other major electric companies in Texas.
Stream electricity rates in Texas are straight-forward and produce relatively predictable energy bills, but the company does not offer low energy Texas rates.
Business Information
Their headquarters in Texas are located at:
2745 Dallas Pkwy Suite 200, Plano, TX 75093
You can reach their corporate headquarters at 888-685-7693.
If you want to sign up for a plan you can either enroll online or over the phone.
Renewable Energy Plans
Stream Green is this light company’s renewable energy program.
It includes any electricity plan that is sourced from renewable energy. The Green Certification of a plan is a confirmation that the company purchased Renewable Energy Credits under that State of Texas program, and that clean energy generated from renewable sources was added to the Texas electric grid on behalf of customers who purchased their “eco+” add-on or enrolled in a green energy plan.
Would you like to cut your personal carbon emissions with a green energy plan to help combat climate change? You can now cut your electricity bill with a cheap green energy rate from major energy providers that have some of the best energy rates in Texas for green plans.
For one-stop shopping on green plans from top electric companies, enter your zip code and home size in the box in the upper right corner of this page, or go to a comparison site that offers green energy plans for less than fossil-sourced plans.
With solar energy plans, you don’t install costly rooftop solar panels. Large solar and wind farms in Texas collect solar energy and wind energy and convert it into electrical energy which is then sent to the grid and powers your home.
Requirements to Start Service

Switching, Moving In, Moving Out, Cancellation Fees
If you’re looking to switch, finding the best energy provider with the cheapest electricity rates in Texas can be challenging. That’s why we made our Savvy Shopper’s Guide.
It’s important that you examine the Electricity Fact Label (EFL) connected with each plan, which will ensure that the one you choose is the correct fit for your home’s usage. We created a handy guide on using an EFL to help you choose the best electricity plan.

Transferring Your Electricity Plan
It’s easy to transfer your service with Stream Energy to your new address in Texas, as long as it’s in a de-regulated zone (roughly 85% of the Lone Star State is deregulated). If you’re moving from your home before your current plan expires, you don’t need to terminate your plan. Call the provider at least 30 days in advance of your move and they should transfer your plan to your new home address at no charge.
Report a Power Outage
Transmission and Distribution Utilities (TDUs, also called TDSPs) transmit electricity, maintain the power lines, check your meter and correct outages. Retail electricity providers such as Stream Energy do not correct power outages. When there is an electricity outage, you’ll get faster results by calling the TDU directly in your area.
To report a power outage, contact your local TDU at the following numbers:
- Oncor: 888-313-4747
- AEP: 866-223-8508
- Centerpoint Energy: 800-332-7143
- Texas New Mexico Power (TNMP): 888-866-7456
- Sharyland Utilities (now Oncor): 888-313-4747
