Many Texans experience electricity pricing that changes frequently. This is because rates are impacted by volatile commodity pricing of natural gas and also by increased residential energy demand caused by the extreme weather we often have.

Amigo Energy Rates & Plans in Texas

At Home Energy Club, we don’t list current Amigo electric rates. We continuously review providers to help you choose the best plans in Texas and update our recommendations.

Electricity plans from Amigo are reasonably priced and include fixed-rate plans and “free electricity” periods, like their “Nights Free Plan”.

Amigo Nights Free Plan

Amigo offers a free nights plan with reasonable time periods for complimentary energy usage. According to their website, not only do you get nights free, you’ll also enjoy 70 kWh of free electricity on a weekly basis.

Generally, we recommend that customers beware of “free electricity” plans, as the average energy rate per kWh you’ll pay is often much higher than in regular plans. However, Amigo’s “free energy” plans are more consumer-friendly based on the average rates displayed in the Electricity Fact Labels (EFLs) compared with similar plans from other providers.

That said, be sure to review the Electricity Facts Label (EFL) to find the exact times when your energy will be free. For example, some Amigo plans only offer “free” energy from 9pm to 7am. Using a lot of electricity outside of that window could land you with a serious bill surprise.

No Deposit Electricity

They also offer no deposit electricity, but it’s solely for residents who pass their credit check. They don’t offer “no credit check” plans.

If you’re searching online for no credit check apartment plans in Texas, you may want to enroll in a prepaid, pay-as-you-go, no deposit energy plan. Many Texans find this to be the best option for their budget and lifestyle.

Amigo Renewable Energy Plans

If you’re looking for renewable energy, Amigo may be a good choice for you. They offer green plans to cut carbon emissions and combat climate change. You can pay an extra $9.99 a month for 100% green energy.

One of the ways they do this is through the use of renewable energy credits, or RECs, that you can purchase, enabling you to offset up to 100% of your residential electricity usage.

Did you know that traditional fossil-sourced electricity in Texas is responsible for a surprising amount of CO2 entering the environment?

You can pick from vetted electricity plans, view exclusive discount rates, and learn about Amigo Energy’s customer satisfaction based on objective reviews at Home Energy Club.

Plus, compare Amigo to other Texas light companies and read thousands of verified reviews, ratings, and complaint statistics. Choose from over 60 electricity retailers and compare from independent sources such as the BBB, State of Texas, and Google and Yelp.

Our comparison site uses its strong bargaining power with electric companies to provide rates that are lower than the ones you’ll find on the actual energy provider sites for the term lengths and brands.

Is Amigo Energy a good company?

As one of the oldest power companies in Texas, Amigo Energy provides transparent plans with no hidden charges. Plus, they offer bilingual customer support. Compare them with other companies by checking out reviews for Amigo and other Texas electric providers.

How to cancel my Amigo Energy account?

Service cancellation takes up to 5 days, so inform Amigo as early as you can. If your contract is going to end in less than 14 days, you may not pay an early termination fee. Otherwise, you have to pay an Amigo Energy cancellation fee if you’re switching to a different electricity provider.

If you’re moving to a different address and can’t transfer your Amigo Energy service there, you shouldn’t have to pay an early cancellation fee. Call Amigo at 888-864-0599 or send your cancellation authorization letter to PO Box 3607, Houston, Texas 77253-3607.

Wondering how to successfully switch your energy provider with zero headaches? We cover this in full detail on our Savvy Shopper’s Guide, but here are the highlights:

  • Beware of early termination fees mentioned above.
  • If the new rates are low enough, switching may still save you money despite any fees.
  • Avoid switching during times of rate surges, like frigid winter spells and sweltering summer heat.
