Reviews & Ratings
True Power has decent reviews on Google, with a near 3-star rating.

Energy Plans
True Power offers competitively priced fixed-rate electricity with both 100% renewable energy and traditional fossil fuel-sourced electricity.
Their price-protected plans offer a wide range of term lengths, including 3 months, 12 months, 18 months, 24 months, and 36 months, catering to a range of lifestyles and electricity needs.
Simply True Fixed
Their Simply True Fixed plans have affordable rates that are competitive, when compared to other no-gimmick, fixed-rate plans.
Key features include:
- Fair electricity rates per kWh
- Transmission & Distribution (TDU) fees
- A range of contract term lengths
- An Early Termination Fee (ETF)
True Green Fixed
For customers who want renewable energy, there are their True Green Fixed plans. They offer the same key features of their Simply Fixed plans with the added benefit of 100% clean energy.
If you’re looking for a short term energy option, their 3-month terms have some of the cheaper advertised electric rates. That said, if you don’t renew or cancel before the term lapses, you may end up with a far higher electric rate.
According to the energy supplier’s website, they don’t have variable rate plans. These plans’ pricing fluctuates due to the commodity cost of energy, often causing bill shocks, so we don’t encourage enrolling in variable rate electric plans.
Note that all of their plans have an Early Termination Fee (ETF) of $300.
Requirements for Signing up
You can enroll in a True Power plan online or over the phone.
They may also require a deposit. That said, some customers may qualify for a deposit waiver, if they meet one of the following criteria:
- Aged 65 or older
- Medically indigent
- A victim of domestic violence
- Have a letter of credit from a previous provider
Bill Pay
To make a payment, simply log in to your online account. You can also pay via telephone or mail, or by making one-time online payments.
Switching, Transferring, Cancellation Fees
When moving to a new home, switching plans, or canceling your plan, it’s crucial to choose an energy solution that suits your needs. To find your best plan, use the Texas Electricity Facts Label (EFL) guide.
Using the EFL
A plan’s EFL can help you compare rates more precisely based on your home’s estimated kWh usage, typically 500 kWh, 1,000 kWh, and 2,000 kWh.
For the most accurate comparison, access your home’s historic energy usage with Smart Meter Texas. To account for demand variations due to weather extremes, it’s best to look at your home’s usage for a full year. Check out our Smart Meter guide for more quick tips on getting the most out of yours.
Transferring Your Electricity Plan
To transfer your plan to your new address, simply inform them about your relocation. Be sure to give them at least 30 days notice to help ensure uninterrupted electricity service during your move.
How do I cancel my energy plan?
You can terminate your electrical service online or over the phone.
Note: terminating your electricity plan before the term ends may incur an Early Termination Fee (ETF). This company’s ETFs are typically quite high at $300.
If you move to another deregulated area, you can transfer your electricity service without penalty. You can often avoid an ETF if you wait to cancel your plan until the final 14 days of your contract.
Reporting a Power Outage
In the event of a power outage, it’s crucial to contact the Transmission Distribution Utility (TDU or TDSP) for your service area in Texas.
Here are the contact details for the current Texas TDUs:
- Oncor: 888-313-4747
