Prepaid Electricity in Texas
Pogo Energy offers prepaid plans, also known as “pay-as-you-go” electricity plans. These plans allow you to use as much or as little energy as you wish.
100% Clean Energy Plan 15
Their current plan offering is the 100% Clean Energy 15 plan, which comes with an array of desirable features, including fully clean energy content.
Other key features of their plans include:
- Variable rates per kWh
- Transmission & Distribution Utility (TDU) fees
- Base charges daily
Please note that while they advertise low electricity rates up front, variable-rate plans can lead to bill surprises because the rates fluctuate based on demand and the commodity cost of gas.
To avoid a bill shock, we recommend enrolling in a fixed-rate plan that provides more predictable bills.
We don’t offer variable rate plans for enrollment online because it’s best to discuss these rates with an operator to ensure they’re a good fit for your needs.
The electric supplier offers a billing assistance program for customers qualifying for low-income status.

No Deposit Electricity
Pogo is considered one of the best prepaid, no-deposit light companies that offer no credit check plans without long-term contractual obligations.
Their plans are often a good fit for people moving into apartments. Plus, their energy rates are affordable, although they’re variable rates, which means they change based on market demand.
Their bill pay is made easier with flexible options to help customers who have trouble maintaining an account balance. You can access your electric supply as you remain in a switch-hold until you pay the pending bill in full, meaning you cannot cancel or switch the plan during this period.
Renewable Energy Plans
All of Pogo’s energy plans are made up of 100% renewable energy, also known as green energy.
Green energy doesn’t emit high levels of carbon dioxide into the environment.
If you want no-deposit lights with clean energy, they may be a good choice.

Report A Power Outage?
Your local TDU (Transmission & Distribution Utility) is responsible for the upkeep and management of the power lines. Pogo is a Retail Electric Provider, or REP, and doesn’t repair outages.
In case of a power outage or any other electric emergency, you should report the issue to the TDU in your energy service area.

Pogo Energy Frequently Asked Questions
How does Pogo Energy work?
As a prepaid, no-deposit electricity energy company, Pogo Energy provides green energy plans with no contract and no credit check.
Also referred to as “pay-as-you-go” energy, Pogo provides energy service with no bill. Instead, they send you daily texts or emails to let you know your energy usage, as well as how much funding is in your account.
When you’re running low, you simply recharge your account, and they’ll keep your lights on for you. Many energy customers try to adjust their electricity usage to stay within budget. To fund your account, check out Pogo Energy Recharge.
The company offers energy service in Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Corpus Christi and other deregulated energy cities across Texas.
What information is needed when I sign up?
Signing up with Pogo Energy is relatively simple because of their prepaid, no deposit electricity model.
They don’t need your Social Security number, credit score or driver’s license number. Your physical address and phone number (to receive updates and balance alerts) are all you need to provide.
How do you pay for service?
To pay for your service, simply recharge your account with them via credit card payment, by phone, or by auto-recharging.
They even accept Apple Pay and Google Pay.
There are also over 10,000 authorized payment locations where you can pay in cash. While most online payment methods have no fees, cash locations charge a handling fee.
Does Pogo disconnect on weekends?
Another reason many energy customers like Pogo is that, according to their website, they’re committed to “keeping your power on.” This means they won’t disconnect your electricity on weekends.
They also won’t disconnect your power at night, on holidays, or during extreme weather events, such as the excessive heat Texans often experience during the summer months.
Note that your TDU is responsible for turning your power back on after a disconnect. For more specific information about timing, contact your TDU.
If my electricity is disconnected, how long does it take to restart?
With most prepaid energy companies, your electric supply may be temporarily disconnected due to non-payment. Power is restarted as soon as you bring your negative balance to $0 or more.
According to Pogo’s website, your power should be turned back on within 2 hours once your account balance is over $0.
In the past, they haven’t charged a fee for disconnection, reconnection, or late payment. That said, beginning May 14, 2024 they’ll be assessing a $25 fee for the reconnection of service.
Luckily, the supplier provides robust account notifications to help you prevent your account from dipping into the negatives.
What is a switch hold on Pogo Energy?
A switch hold with Pogo Energy is when there’s a hold on your account preventing you from switching energy providers due to an outstanding balance.
Switch holds are also placed on your account when you have a deferred payment plan, or DPP.
You can learn more about their deferred payment plan here.
How to terminate electric service?
Pogo Energy customers can cancel their electric service and switch to another electric supplier at any time. Because there’s no term commitment, canceling is as simple as declining to recharge your account or switching to another provider.
Note that if you’re in a switch-hold, you cannot buy electricity from another provider until you clear the outstanding debt in your account.
