New Power also offers paperless billing, making it easy for you to monitor and pay your bills without the hassle of waiting on snail mail for your monthly payments.

Switching, Moving and Cancellation Fees

If you’re switching, moving or even canceling your New Power energy plan, be sure you know all of your options. On top of comparing top electricity providers and energy plans right here, we also recommend reading your Electricity Facts Label, or EFL, to select the correct plan for your home.

Reading your EFL

Reading and understanding the Texas Electricity Fact Label will help you get an apples-to-apples comparison of any energy plan you’re considering. It will also help you understand how much your plan will cost based on how much energy your home uses.

To get an exact picture of your home’s monthly kWh usage, which will help when reading a plan’s EFL, try Smart Meter Texas. And be sure to browse our guide to understanding Smart Meters.

Transferring your plan

Transferring your New Power service to a new address is as easy as filling out a simple form on their website. It may take one to two business days to process your information. We recommend giving the light company 30 days notice to ensure a smooth transition.

Canceling your plan

You can cancel your plan at any time online or by calling customer service. Note that you’ll likely be responsible for an Early Termination Fee, or ETF. Most of this light company’s plans come with an ETF of $20 per month remaining in your contract.

If you want to save money, you can wait until the final 14 days of your contract or you’re moving to a new location, you can usually cancel your plan without incurring an ETF.

Reporting a Power Outage

When dealing with a New Power outage, immediately notify your Transmission and Distribution Utility (TDU). TDUs like AEP or Centerpoint maintain and repair the lines that power homes and businesses, while REPs, or retail energy providers, only market and bill you for your energy.

To report an outage, contact your local utility company below:

  • Oncor: 888-313-4747
  • Centerpoint: 800-332-7143
  • TNMP: 888-866-7456
  • AEP: 866-223-8508
  • Sharyland Utilities: 800-545-4513
